S.A.F.E. courses meet or exceed Illinois Department of Public Health and ServSafe food handling licensing requirements.

How long are the courses? The 15 hour course is typically taught over 2 consecutive days 8-5.

When do I need to register? For Illinois State classes registration is preferred but walk-ins are welcome based on seat availability.  For ServSafe classes 3 weeks notification is preferred, additional charge for less than 2 week notice due to ServSafe policy.

Will lunch be provided? No.  Feel free to bring a sack lunch or go out for lunch.

What if I don’t pass? The class may be retaken one time at no charge.  Retakes must be taken within 30 days.   Policy does not apply to ServSafe.  Retakes are discounted based on ServSafe testing fees.

What should I expect? A relaxed classroom atmosphere.  The day will be a combination of lecture, activities, discussion and movies.

Where are the courses held? Classes are held monthly at the U.S. Farm Bureau building.  On-site courses may be arranged by contacting me.

How much do the courses cost?

  • The 15 hour Illinois State new licensing class is $100
  • The 5 hour Illinois State course renewal class is $55
  • The 15 hour ServSafe course is $160

How do I pay for the course? Send check or money order to S.A.F.E. prior to class.

Do I need a manual? Manuals are available to use during the course.  If you wish to check out a manual a $5 deposit is required.  Manuals may also be purchased for $5.

What % do I need to pass the exam? 75%

Do I need to bring anything with me to the course? Photo ID, FSSMC license # (for renewal), snacks, lunch (or plan to eat out).

What are the instructor’s credentials? Connie Biggs is an Illinois Department of Public Health and ServSafe certified instructor.  Connie is a registered dietitian (RD) and licensed dietitian/nutritionist (LDN) who has a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Bradley University.  She has a specific interest in diabetes care and nutrition.
